Miss Kelly's is a private home daycare in NDG. We operate out of a big
comfy home with large rooms and high ceilings. We have a maximum of nine
children at any time. We are not subsidized, but subsidies are available to
parents in the form of refundable tax credits (see our fees page for
links).
We are conveniently located on Oxford, one house south of Sherbrooke, four
blocks west of Decarie near NDG park.
Miss Kelly's is a peaceful place where children learn and grow at their own
pace. We offer a challenging and enriching curriculum, through teachers
whose purpose is to guide and inspire, not enforce. We offer
developmentally appropriate tools and activities, nutritious and
organic-friendly snacks and meals, and regular progress evaluations.
We believe the early stages of development are the most crucial and that
children are able to develop many more skills than generally assumed.
We also believe that the best reward system is the child's own internal
reward system and that children learn best through self-correction.
Our curriculum is built around the natural learning stages of the child and
our teachers are guides who observe and encourage. We encourage children to
understand the value of what they are doing and to allow the child's
interest to lead us towards their next phase of learning.
We avoid all forms of punishment absolutely, and believe children model
themselves on what we do, thus we strive to behave in positive and
life-affirming ways.
We believe music can be a vital ingredient in the growth of a child, and
thus we introduce all kinds of music to children, and introduce them to
instruments and how to play music.
We also introduce kids to writing, verbal expression, and logical thinking,
and we believe that exercise and the use of gross and fine motor skills
stimulates mind and body, and encourages confidence and a general sense of
well-being.
We use real-life materials to provide a solid grounding in real-world
activities and to provide a basis in real-world living.
